Sessions, workshops and roundtables

The organizing committee aims to prepare the International Conference for Nubian Studies as a multifaceted and safe space where knowledge exchange and scientific discussion will bring together various specialists. We have prepared subjects for the main sessions (for details click here). If you notice that your research topic is not well represented by the main sessions, we are opening a possibility to submit a proposal for a session, workshop or roundtable. Please find below a short definition of each as well as guidelines on how to submit your idea.

Sessions

Sessions concern overarching, interdisciplinary research topics. The discussions bring together experts from a range of research backgrounds, career stages, and across disciplines. In addition to the main sessions predefined by the ICNS2022 organising committee, session topics may be proposed by the participants. Proposals for sessions, including title (max. 20 words), keywords (3-6), and abstract (max. 300 words), are to be submitted online. The deadline for session proposals is 15 October 2021. Please read the guidelines below in order to proceed with your session proposal.

  • one person can submit only one proposal for a session.
  • a proposal for a session can be submitted only via the registration form (note the button under the guidelines).
  • you can submit a proposal for a session in cooperation with other researchers. Please note that each of the co-organizers of the session is asked to complete the registration form (to clarify, for example, you plan to organize a session in cooperation with two researchers, then we should receive three registration forms, one from each person).
  • the initiator/s of the session is/are asked to chair the session.
  • the organizing committee can decide to merge the sessions if considerable thematic overlap will take place.
  • if the sessions will be merged then the initiators are asked to chair the session together.
  • the call for sessions will end on 15 October 2021, that is before the beginning of the call for papers.
  • during the call for papers, speakers will have to point to the session they choose to present the paper.
  • the session will be included in the program of the conference only if at least four papers are assigned to the session.
  • speakers who submitted for the session that did not meet the required number of papers will be reassigned to the most suitable session by the organizing committee.

Round tables

Round tables serve to discuss debated topics, develop research agendas and provide space for presenting and advancing work on existing and future projects. The discussions bring together disparate voices and facilitate productive exchange of experiences and approaches. The aim of the roundtable is to discuss scientific research related to the topic and to provide a platform for interaction between experts.
The time allotted for a round table is 2 hours or 4.5 hours (with a coffee break). The round table organiser designates a moderator and provides a list of participants (four at minimum). Themes that structure the discussion and the time allotted to each speaker are defined by the round table organiser.
Organisers are asked to send their proposals for round tables, with abstracts, and the list of participants to the ICNS2022 organising committee by email (nubianstudies2022@uw.edu.pl). The deadline for proposals of a round table is 15 October 2021.

Workshops

Workshops provide space for an evidence-based presentation leading to a discussion between participants. They involve presentations and interactive, hands-on studies, giving an opportunity to share scientific research and discuss specific topics.
Organisers are asked to send their proposals for workshops to the ICNS2022 organising committee by email (nubianstudies2022@uw.edu.pl). The proposal should contain the title, description of the discussed topic, its innovating character, indicating the possibilities of interactive studies. The time allotted for a workshop is 2 hours or 4.5 hours (with a coffee break) or a whole day. The workshop organiser designates a moderator and provides a list of five members of the workshop board, which will manage all issues connected with the workshop. Participation in a workshop will be open to all ICNS participants. The deadline for proposals for a workshop is 15 October 2021.
